Recently, I was in a conversation with a friend who mentioned her wedding invite project. I said “hey, I’d love to help you with your invites, that’s what I do,” she said, “Yeah, but I can’t afford to do custom invitations, so I’ll probably be stuck with some pre-fab ones.”
Light bulb moment!!!…people think custom, from-scratch design is expensive. It’s not. So I told her, as I would tell anyone (hence the blog entry), “Custom design is highly creative and resourceful. It doesn’t automatically mean expensive.”
After chatting a bit more with her, I shared that Spiffy Press works with all budgets, whether you have $10 or $100 to spend per invitation. The invitation budget is one of the most important elements in the creative process. And it’s obvious why it’s an important overall budget factor.
From a designer’s point of view, working within constraints forces you to find solutions you may not normally gravitate toward. You find new ideas, new avenues of creativity…it makes you resourceful and a well-rounded designer. I welcome all budgets and opportunities to create new designs in all sorts of formats. It’s this variety that keeps it fresh and fun!
Take a look at our wedding invite story page. You’ll see that each couple has a completely different set of factors, experiences and reasons for designing their invites the way they did. And they each had very different budgets. Yet they all got a custom designed invitation they loved because it reflected who they are.
Hope this helps those of you who think custom automatically means expensive. It doesn’t. What it means is that you get a completely unique look that no one else has that fits within your budget.
Think about it and give us a call.
